History

Georgia Avenue is a major North-South artery in Northwest Washington, D.C. The upper corridor of Georgia Avenue runs from Missouri Avenue to Eastern Avenue. The avenue also known as U.S Route 29 is a vibrant commercial corridor supporting proud residential neighborhoods. the upper corridor measures 3.2 miles.

The original Georgia Avenue was the road now named Potomac Avenue in southwest and southeast Washington D.C Current-day Georgia Avenue was originally named 7th Street Extend and BrightWood Avenue Seventh Street pike was built as a plank road. In 1906, Georgia’s senator Augustus Octavius Bacon pushed to located Georgia Avenue to is current location.

Upper Georgia Ave is predominately residential and has a loose urban fabric Upper Georgia Avenue Remains a residential and commercial gem for those who live in the North part at the geographic diamond of DC.  This existing streetscape is strong with landscaping,lighting and fixtures that are contemporary but not overwhelming. Projects in the pipeline reinforce this areas residential character. This area of Georgia Avenue possesses a unique urban vitality, with an active street life. a recent flurry of residential and commercial development is turning it into a transitional community.
